About Ethics Review Committee – Animal Studies
Ethics Review Committee – Animal Studies of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Sri Jayewardenepura (ERC-AS, USJ), Sri Lanka, in ensuring quality and consistency in ethics review pertaining to animal studies. The vision of ERC-AS, USJ is to be the apex body in granting ethical clearance to studies involving animals in Sri Lanka where humane treatment to research animals is considered as the utmost priority and to provide safe keeping, comfort and sympathy to animals in need while engaging the hearts, hands and minds. Ethics Review Committee – Animal Studies of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (ERC-AS, USJ) will be responsible for approving and monitoring research studies involving animals, including carrying out inspections of animals and facilities. On behalf of the establishment, ERC-AS, USJ will take actions where necessary, to stop inappropriate research and to discipline researchers by withdrawing their research approvals. We will also provide guidance and support to researchers on matters relevant to animal welfare, through means such as the preparation of guidelines and dissemination of relevant scientific literature.
