Offered by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ) through the Department of Business Economics, USJ, new admissions for the Master of Philosophy in Business Economics (MPhil(BEc)) are now open for the Academic Year 2026 – April Intake.

- The course fee can be paid in two installments. Loan facilities can also be arranged at concessionary rates.

Programme Structure and Eligibility

The MPhil (BEc) programme is designed for individuals seeking to deepen their expertise in Business Economics. To be eligible for registration, applicants must possess a sound knowledge of English and hold one of the following qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree with a first or second-class standing from a recognized university, specializing in Business Economics, Economics, Business Administration, Commerce, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Accounting, Financial Management, Entrepreneurship, Estate Management and Valuation, Operations and Technology Management, Public Administration, Business Information Systems, Statistics, Science, or Mathematics.
A Master’s degree from a recognized university in Business Economics, Economics, Business Administration, Commerce, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Accounting, Professional Accounting, Financial Management, Applied Finance, Entrepreneurship, Entrepreneurial Business Management, Real Estate Management and Valuation, Operations and Technology Management, Public Administration, Business Information Systems, Statistics, Science, or Mathematics.
Successful completion of the PGDBE programme offered by the Department of Business Economics.
Other qualifications equivalent to the above may be considered, subject to the approval of the Senate.

Follow these steps to complete your application for the MPhil (BEc) program:

Initiate Application: Click on the “Apply Now” button below or navigate to the “Applications” page on the USJ website.
Login: Select the course “Master of Philosophy in Business Economics” and log in using your email and NIC/passport number.
Submit Details: Enter your personal details and click on “Submit.”
Send the downloaded application to bosmgt.fgs@sjp.ac.lk

Application Fee: LKR 2,000/- Once you have applied, you can pay the application Fee by Visa/Master, or you can download the bank slip and make the payment through a People’s Bank.

Important: Please don’t ask the application fee from another applicant. Each and every applicant will get a different account number for a single NIC.

Post Hard Copies: Post the printed application along with certified copies of all documents uploaded to the system via registered post to:
