Postgraduate Diploma in Industrial Mathematics
(SLQF 8)

Offered through the Department of Mathematics, University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ)

Applications are invited from interested candidates for the Postgraduate Diploma in Industrial Mathematics (SLQF 8) offered by the Faculty of Graduate Studies through the Department of Mathematics, University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

Program Objectives

• Provide an in-depth knowledge in Industrial Mathematics with an emphasis on Mathematical Modeling, Applied Statistics, Operations Research, and Scientific Computing.
• Provide opportunities for research in applications of Mathematics to existing problems in industry.

Target Group

• Candidates employed in or are expecting employment in the industry.
• Research Students in Applied Mathematics oriented fields.

Course Structure and Duration: Post Graduate Diploma (SLQF 8)

• One Academic year (Two 15-week Semesters)
• Course fee Rs. 200,000/- * In addition, a library fee, an examination fee, and a registration fee should be payable at the time of registration.
• Classes will be conducted on weekends.
• Medium: English

Minimum Admission Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree with Mathematics as a component preferably BSc (Honors) in Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Science, BSc (Engineering) or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized university, acceptable to the FGS and the Department of Mathematics.

• Application Closing Date: 15th August 2025 (Extended)
• Tentative Date of Commencement: August 2025
• A written examination and/or an interview may be held to select the candidates for the program.
• The program will be offered only if at least 20 candidates are registered.

How to apply for the PGD in Industrial Mathematics?

1. Click on the “Apply Now” button below or go to the “Applications” page.
2. Select the Course “PGD in Industrial Mathematics” and log in with your email & NIC/passport number.
3. Enter your details and click on Submit.
4. You will see “You have successfully submitted your Application” in a new web page. Download the application & Bank pay slip from this page. You can pay the application fee online via Visa or Master Card in LKR from this page by clicking the online payment icon.
5. You can pay the application fee of Rs. 2,000/- online only at this stage. If not, you have to visit a People’s Bank physically and pay the application fee of Rs. 2,000/- to the following account:

   Account Holder: University of Sri Jayewardenepura

   Account number: 053010006962

   Bank & Branch: People’s Bank, Gangodawila Branch

   Important: If the bank officer informs you that this account number is incorrect, please ask the officer to contact People’s Bank, Gangodawila branch. People’s Bank accounts normally contain 15 digits, but this account contains only 12 digits. Therefore, you cannot use Cash Deposit Machines or bank applications to pay.

6. Login again by repeating the above 1st & 2nd steps again.
7. Click on the “Next” Button at the bottom. (If necessary, you are allowed to edit your details).
8. You need to send the following documents (uploading the documents is not mandatory, but sending the hard copy & sending an email to bosps.fgs@sjp.ac.lk is mandatory – refer to 9 & 10 below):
   • Color Photograph (3.0cm width x 4.0cm height with plain sky-blue background) – .jpg or .png file
   • Scanned copy of Birth Certificate – .pdf file
   • Bank payment receipt or Online payment receipt- .pdf file
   • Scanned copies of Academic Certificates (First Degree & Masters/MPhil) – .pdf files
   • Scanned copy/ies of Professional Qualifications Certificate/s- .pdf files
   • Scanned copy/ies of Other Qualifications Certificate/s – .pdf file/s
   • Service letter – .pdf file
   • Note: No need to upload any Research Proposal / Concept paper
9. Send the downloaded application (from 4th step above) to bosps.fgs@sjp.ac.lk with scanned copies of Degree Certificate, Transcript, Birth Certificate, Passport size Colour photograph and payment receipt. Please write “PGD in Industrial Mathematics 2025” in the subject field of the email.
10. Post the printed application (from 4th step above) along with the certified documents included in the above 8th step through a registered post to Senior Assistant Registrar, Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Gangodawila, Nugegoda. Write “PGD in Industrial Mathematics 2025” on the top left-hand corner of the envelope.
